This lesson accompanies the BrainPOP topic Conflict Resolution, and supports the skill of working collaboratively to problem solve constructively. Students demonstrate understanding through a variety of projects.

Step 1: ACTIVATE PRIOR KNOWLEDGE

Ask students: Think of a time you had a conflict with someone. How did you resolve it?  

Step 2: BUILD KNOWLEDGE

Step 3: APPLY and ASSESS 

Assign the Conflict Resolution Challenge and Quiz, prompting students to apply essential literacy skills while demonstrating what they learned about this topic.

Step 4: DEEPEN and EXTEND

Students express what they learned about conflict resolution while practicing essential literacy skills with one or more of the following activities. Differentiate by assigning ones that meet individual student needs.

  • Make-a-Movie: Create a story about a relatable conflict. In your movie, answer this question: How do characters resolve it?
  • Make-a-Map: Make a concept map identifying strategies for resolving different kinds of conflicts. 
  • Creative Coding: Code a comic about two people using a healthy strategy to resolve a conflict. 
  • Primary Source Activity: Analyze the ancient Babylonian tablet and answer the accompanying questions.
