2.5.5 Comparatives and Superlatives Review Lesson Plan

Lesson Procedure:

1. Make a Yearbook. In the movie The Best Yearbook (L2U5L5), Ben and Moby are working on their school yearbook. If students are not familiar with a yearbook, then bring one in to share or borrow one from the school.
   Make a school yearbook, or class yearbook, with the class. Have students watch the movie again, encouraging them to take note of the yearbook categories. Pause the movie to add categories to a list you create on the board. After the movie, brainstorm more categories. Ask volunteers to come up to the board, and revise the category names so they are in the superlative . For example, the funniest, the most fashionable.
   Students can make the yearbook as a class, in small groups, with a partner, or individually. Suggest that they look for images on the Internet, in magazines, or they can draw their own pictures. When the yearbooks are complete, have students make presentations to the class.
2. Review the Grammar. The movie The Best Yearbook (L2U5L5) reviews all of the grammar featured in the unit (the previous four lessons). Assign each pair of students a grammar topic. First, have pairs review the movie that features that grammar concept, as well as the Grammar section of the movie, and/or the Know More feature. The topics are as follows:
   comparative adjectives and adverbs - The Hungrier Shopper (L2U5L1)
   superlative adjectives and adverbs – Biggest and Best (L2U5L2)
   adjectives that end in –ing and –ed - An Amazing Walk (L2U5L3)
   word order – We Planned the Trip (L2U5L4)
   prepositions of time - We Planned the Trip (L2U5L4)
   After students review their assigned grammar concepts, have them watch The Best Yearbook (L2U5L5) again, listing examples from this movie of their grammar topic. Then have pairs report to the class, making a master list on the board of the examples they found. Encourage the rest of the class to contribute more examples.
