The Fiscal Ship

Posted by jglassman on

The Fiscal Ship, a new game developed by 1st Playable Productions in collaboration with the designers of Budget Hero, challenges students in grades 6-12 to use real-world data from the Congressional Budget Office to put the federal budget on a sustainable course.  Using a non-partisan approach, The Fiscal Ship illustrates how how Congress can work to balance future budgets while still ensuring government services. With the upcoming presidential election, this game offers a perfect opportunity to teach about fiscal issues associated with the election. Find additional resources on our Elections Theme page.

For My BrainPOP users, The Fiscal Ship comes with the SnapThought® tool. This tool enables students to write about their thinking while they play. For more tips and ideas on using Fiscal Ship in your classroom, explore our Lesson Ideas page.

This  timely and engaging game comes from our partners at the Hutchins Center at Brookings and the Serious Games Initiative at the Woodrow Wilson Center with support from the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, the Hewlett Foundation, and the Richard Lounsbery Foundation.
