This lesson accompanies the BrainPOP topic Basketball, and supports the standard of analyzing how the culture and gameplay of the sport has changed since its invention. Students demonstrate understanding through a variety of projects.
Step 1: ACTIVATE PRIOR KNOWLEDGE

- What team sports have you participated in or seen played? What do you enjoy most about playing or watching team sports?
- What do you know about basketball? What do you hope to learn?
Step 2: BUILD BACKGROUND
- Read aloud the description on the Basketball topic page.
- Play the Movie, pausing to check for understanding.
