- Play the Movie, pausing to check for understanding.
Step 3: APPLY and ASSESS
Assign Proportional Relationships Challenge and Quiz, prompting students to apply essential literacy skills while demonstrating what they learned about this topic.
Step 4: DEEPEN and EXTEND
Students express what they learned about proportional relationships while practicing essential literacy skills with one or more of the following activities. Differentiate by assigning ones that meet individual student needs.
- Make-a-Movie: Produce a cooking show explaining how to make a recipe for cookies, where the ratio of flour to butter is 3:2. In your demonstration, describe how to determine how much butter to use when you have different amounts of flour.
- Make-a-Map: Create a concept map sequencing the steps to determine how much water you need to cook 3.5 cups of rice, if the recipe uses a ratio of two cups of water to one cup of rice.
- Creative Coding: Code a math problem about proportional relationships. Challenge a classmate to solve.
