Cancer Topic Update
Posted by Dana Burnell on
We understand that cancer can be a sensitive or frightening subject for kids, especially if it has affected their lives in some way. Our updated Cancer movie is intended to alleviate that fear by deepening their knowledge of the disease.
Kids follow along as Tim explains the connection between cell division and mutations on DNA code and how, if multiple mutations build up, a tumor can form. The movie walks through the process of diagnosis and why it’s important to catch cancer early, focusing on updated treatments that work to interfere with cell division.
Learning how to support a sick loved one, ask for support, and even how to say goodbye is a key part of this movie that we hope is helpful to your students.
For guidance exploring this topic see our Cancer lesson plan, which helps students connect to the topic through creative projects like planning an awareness campaign or coding a medical breakthrough headline.
