Game Over Gopher: Extending Student Learning

Students benefit most from Game Over Gopher game play when they are provided multiple opportunities to explore the game. Try to provide at least 2 twenty-minutes sessions in class and an additional 20 minute session as a follow up. Encourage students to play the game at home, as well.

After their first game play experience, introduce students to the “cheat” which will allow them to start at the level where they finished the last time they played. The cheat for this game is to press the shift + C keys on the level select screen.

Afterward, ask students to reflect on how the later levels in Game Over Gopher get more challenging and the strategies they used to master each level. You may also want to ask students to explain what is different about the scale for the x-axis and the y-axis in later levels.
