Classroom Activities: Slow Land Changes
These classroom activities are designed to complement the Slow Land Changes topic on BrainPOP Jr.
Weathered Walk
Take your class out for a walk around the school grounds or neighborhood and have them look for signs of weathering. They may observe broken pieces of sidewalk or cracked rocks. Make sure they bring sketchbooks to draw what they observe or, if possible, they can use cameras to take pictures. When you return to the classroom, have students share what they discovered on their walk.
Rock Story
Have students bring in a rock or find one on the school grounds. What does their rock look like? Have them describe details about the rock including color, texture, and hardness. Where do they think the rock came from? They may want to research at the library or on the Internet to learn more. Have students write or tell a story in first person about their rock’s life and experiences. They can illustrate their writing to create a storybook.
