Family and Homeschool Activities: Science Skills
These family and homeschool activities are designed to complement the Science Skills topic on BrainPOP Jr.
Seed Study
Together with your child, study different fruit and vegetable seeds. Gather different items such as apples, oranges, strawberries, bell peppers, and so on. Cut up the item for your child and have him or her observe the seeds, just like Annie did in the movie. Have your child record data and classify the seeds. Why might some fruits and vegetables have a single large seed while others have smaller, more plentiful seeds? Have your child make a prediction, then test that prediction.
Sink or Float?
Have your child predict which small objects will sink or float in a cup of water. You may want to watch the Sink or Float movie for review. Have your child observe an object, record his or her prediction, and then run the experiment. If your child’s prediction was incorrect, have him or her come up with reasons why.
