Grade Levels: K-3

These family and homeschool activities are designed to complement the Prefixes topic on BrainPOP Jr.

Searching for Prefixes

Challenge your child to read a paragraph, article, or other piece of writing and underline or highlight all the words with prefixes. Have him or her identify the root word and prefix, then infer the word’s meaning. Your child can keep a list of new or unfamiliar words in a journal. He or she may want to cut out the words that were found and paste them into the journal on a “prefix page,” or make a “prefix poster” with them.

Undo/Do Over

Have your child do an activity, such as tying his or her shoe. Then have your child untie and then retie his or her shoe. Repeat with other activities, being sure to use words with prefixes. Then switch roles and have your child ask you to do, redo, or undo something.
