Seven Weeks, Seven Continents

Challenge your child to learn about seven continents in seven weeks. Each week focus on one continent and learn about its countries, landforms, bodies of water, and cultures. You and your child can also cook a meal that is typical fare for your continent. Challenge your child to learn seven words in a language that is commonly spoken on the continent using free online dictionaries. For example, for North America, your child may want to learn seven words in the Cherokee language. For South America, your child may want to learn seven words in Spanish or Portuguese. For Antarctica, since there are no indigenous languages, your child can learn seven new words that pertain to the continent. Share what she or he has learned with other family members.

Antarctica

How do people explore Antarctica? What is gained through such exploration? Research together find out. Learn about early explorers like James Cook and Ernest Shackleton. They went through grueling journeys to explore this remote and harsh part of the world. Would your child like to explore a new area? Why or why not?
