In Cool Science Careers, students can choose between four different career fields, enter a laboratory or office, and virtually try out activities that are typical to these careers. Students test for effects of drugs on the hippocampus, learn how inhalants affect animals, and research the effects of steroids. There’s also information about the careers, and educational requirements for each can be found on the bulletin boards in the virtual rooms. At the end of each simulation, students will receive certificates that can be saved to their computer.
In this lesson plan which is adaptable for grades 5-8, students explore various science careers by using an online game to take on the role of a scientists in the fields of Neuropsychology, Toxicology, Epidemiology, and Neurobiology. Students will select the career that most interests them and conduct additional research to learn more about the field. This lesson plan is aligned to Common Core State Standards. See more »
