For students who may find the matching task challenging, try these tips and strategies:

  • Visual movie hunt using BrainPOP movie.  If the Match Challenge task includes images, encourage students to find the visual in the context of the BrainPOP movie.
  • Vocab movie hunt using BrainPOP movie.  If the Match Challenge task includes words, encourage students to listen for the word’s definition in context of the BrainPOP movie. A simple graphic organizer listing the target words, with space for a definition, synonyms, or notes can help students as they watch the movie.
  • Find definitions using Make-a-Map:  Students can load the topic related Make-a-Map and use the keywords nodes to help locate the definition quickly.
  • Work side by side.  Partners complete the same Challenge task side by side, explaining their thinking to one another as the work in parallel.
  • Prepare in advance. Prepare worksheets ahead of time, pulling out the academic vocabulary and topic-specific vocabulary for students to work on before they do the Challenge.
