Grade Levels: K-3

These classroom activities are designed to complement the Points, Line, Segments, Rays topic on BrainPOP Jr.

Picture Hunt

Give small groups or pairs a list of items to find in the classroom or around the school grounds. For example, the list might include an item with two pairs of parallel sides or a shirt with parallel lines. Then have students work together to find the items. They can take digital photos of the items or draw pictures with a short description of where they found the item. Encourage students to be creative and look for objects in surprising places!

Reading a Map

Help students develop their map-reading skills. Create a simple map of your community, or a fictional one. Make sure street names are clearly marked as well as any landmarks. Then have students answer questions about the map. Which streets run parallel? Which streets intersect? How do you know? This is also a good opportunity to review the cardinal directions.
