Grade Levels: K-3

These classroom activities are designed to complement the Ocean Habitats topic on BrainPOP Jr.

Entering the Twilight Zone
Animals in the twilight zone have different adaptations to survive in areas with little light. Have pairs or small groups pick a living thing in the twilight zone and prepare a presentation about its adaptations. Does this plant or animal remain in the twilight zone, or move to other zones? They may want to create a BrainPOP Jr.-style movie or create a storyboard. They may also want to perform as anchors and give a news report. Encourage students to be creative and double-check their facts.

Deep Sea

How do scientists explore the deep sea? Today marine biologists use many different techniques and machines to help them explore the deepest parts of the ocean. Scientists use robots, submersibles, and employ imaging techniques in order to find out about places no humans have ever gone. Research together to find out about underwater missions and technologies. This may require a trip to the library or, if possible, a trip to the aquarium.
