Family and Homeschool Activities for Teaching about Jackie Robinson
These family and homeschool activities are designed to complement the BrainPOP Jr. Jackie Robinson topic page, which includes a movie, quizzes, online games, printable activities, and more.
Family Hero
Heroes are all around us! Have your child choose a hero in your family and interview him or her. Prompt your child to learn about the family member’s childhood and any challenges the hero has faced. You may want to help your child come up with interview questions. Then have your child write a mini biography about the hero. Prompt your child to consider why this person is important, his or her achievements, and what it is about the person that your child admires.
Life After Baseball
After Jackie Robinson retired from baseball, he continued to break new ground. Have your child research Jackie Robinson’s life after baseball. Help her look up information on the Internet or at your local library then create a timeline that begins with Robinson’s retirement. Encourage your child to fill in the timeline with events from Robinson’s life. Note that the timeline doesn’t have to end with Robinson’s death. There are plenty of important occasions that honor Robinson’s legacy.
