Listen Up!

Listen to music together and clap or count along to the beat. You may want to listen to a variety of genres, such as rock, hip-hop, or classical. If possible, explore world music together. Many free Internet radio stations stream music from different parts of the world, including Africa and India, whose music has beats that differ from Western music. Challenge your child to clap along to these songs.

Write a Song

Write a song together using quarter, half, and whole notes. We recommend using the four-four time signature. You may want to just focus on one pitch, such as middle C, and practice writing the symbols together. Then clap or count along as you play your new song!
