Grade Levels: K-3

These family and homeschool activities are designed to complement the Georgia O’Keeffe topic on BrainPOP Jr.

Flower Study

Pick a flower and observe it closely. Look at its center, petals, stems, and leaves. Help your child identify imperfections and variations in color and size. Then have him or her draw or paint the flower. Your child may want to paint a close-up in the style of Georgia O’Keeffe or create a more abstract painting.

Art Appreciation

Visit an art museum or art gallery together with your child. Take a look at different works together and discuss them. What idea or feeling does each piece of artwork communicate? Why? Invite your child to pay attention to shape, color, and brushstrokes and think of ways to incorporate the artists’ techniques into his or her own art.
