Grade Levels: K-3

These family and homeschool activities are designed to complement the BrainPOP Jr. Grasslands  topic page, which includes a movie, quizzes, online games, printable activities, and more.

Learn about an  Endangered Habitat

Remind your child that in the movie, you learned that the more you know about an endangered habitat, the better able you are to help save it. Together, choose a habitat (it can be grasslands but doesn’t have to be). Together, research the habitat. Find out why it’s  endangered, the animals that live there and what’s happening to them, how people are helping, and what you can do to help.

Grassland 20 Questions

After watching the movie together, play a game of Grassland 20 Questions as a family. Have your child go first by choosing an animal from the movie but keep it in their head. Ask questions such as “Do you live in the savanna?” “Are you a predator?” etc. Whoever guesses goes next.

Grass Hunters

Walk around the neighborhood, observing different type of grass you see along the way. Invite your child to bring a notebook and a camera, too, if possible. Have her draw and/or take pictures of the different grass you see along with a description, being sure to note location. After your walk, review the pictures and notes and prompt your child to draw conclusions about why the grass in one location may look different than another. They should note reasons such as amount of sunlight, whether it’s watered regularly, etc.
