Grade Levels: K-3

These family and homeschool activities are designed to complement the BrainPOP Jr. Determination topic page, which includes a movie, quizzes, online games, printable activities, and more.

Read Aloud and Discuss

Read aloud a book with a determined character. Create a character chart or do a character study analyzing the character’s behavior. Discuss what the main character was trying to achieve and how he or she showed perseverance and grit. What lessons can be learned from the character? Discuss with your child.

Determination Comic Strip

Brainstorm with your child something challenging that she or he has been trying to do, such as hitting a ball, riding a bike, tying laces, playing an instrument, etc. Discuss the strategies learned about from Annie and Moby in the movie. Then have your child create a comic strip and draw and write the steps they followed to accomplish a goal.

Role Model

Have your child think of someone they look up to, such as a family member, professional athlete, a performer, an artist, etc. Research that person together and make a concept map identifying the ways the person persevered to reach his or her goals. Make note of the mistakes, failures, or setbacks the person made along the way.
