Easter Lesson Plan: Culture

This lesson accompanies the BrainPOP topic Easter, and supports the standard of explaining and giving examples of how traditions, beliefs, and values contribute to the development and transmission of culture. Students demonstrate understanding through a variety of projects.

Step 1: ACTIVATE PRIOR KNOWLEDGE

Prompt students to share what they know about Easter. Prompt them to share any traditions they’ve observed or heard about. Ask:

• How are Easter traditions similar to those of other holidays? 
• Where might some Easter traditions have come from? 

Step 2: BUILD KNOWLEDGE

• Read the description on the Easter topic page.
• Play the Movie, pausing to check for understanding.
  

Step 3: APPLY and ASSESS 

Assign Easter Challenge and Quiz, prompting students to apply essential literacy skills while demonstrating what they learned about this topic.

Step 4: DEEPEN and EXTEND

Students express what they learned about Easter while practicing essential literacy skills with one or more of the following activities. Differentiate by assigning ones that meet individual student needs.

• Make-a-Movie: Produce a documentary about the origins of at least one Easter tradition. Explain how the tradition evolved over time. 
• Make-a-Map: Create a concept map identifying and describing Easter traditions from different cultures. 
• Creative Coding: Code a museum with artifacts representing Easter traditions.
