Grade Levels: K-3

These classroom activities are designed to complement the Combinations topic on BrainPOP Jr.

Take a Trip
Have students pretend they are taking a trip. Have them pack a small bag of pants and shirts from home and bring it to class, or cut pictures of clothing out of magazines. Then choose a student volunteer to pick out a few pants and shirts, and together, find the total number of possible outfit combinations. You can create a tree diagram or chart together or make drawings. Then create the multiplication sentence together.

Café Classroom

Set up a restaurant in the classroom. Have students create a menu where patrons can make choices to create a combo meal. You may want to give examples to get them started. Students can make food for their classmates to order by drawing pictures or cutting out photos from a magazine or newspaper. Have students visit each other’s restaurants and calculate the total number of possible combinations using charts, tree diagrams, or multiplication.
