Educator Resources for Earthquake Game

In the Earthquake game, students learn how to find the epicenter of an earthquake and the types of techniques that seismologists use to do their work. The game supports exploration of how triangulation functions as students apply it to locating an earthquake's source. Players also learn that S and P waves are created by earthquakes, and that these waves move at different speeds. In game mode (there’s also a helpful tutorial mode), players are presented with a map of three cities, each represented by a different shape. A timeline shows students when each city was struck by a seismic wave. Using this information, the student must predict the earthquake’s origin point. The goal is to plot the correct origin point in the least number of guesses.
