Educator Resources for CodeCombat: Ogre Encounter

In CodeCombat: Ogre Encounter, players create real Python code to complete the game goals. This game is designed to expose students to their first typed programming language in an accessible game setting. Students learn to create a basic command, and then expand this knowledge to cover objects, function, and variable definition in coding. By the end of the four levels, players will have successfully studied Python coding's basic syntax, as well as created coding arguments and strings. Coding directions are contained within the game, which can be played alone or in teams. Teachers are encouraged to use the handy hint button on the game screen, which helps students to make connective leaps. The game also assists students in debugging their code by pointing out syntax and spelling errors -- instant feedback that helps to engage players in the programming process and keep them involved in learning.
