Educator Resources for Build-A-Body: Digestive System

Build-A-Body: Digestive System is a drag-and-drop interactive meant to teach about the organs and organ substructures within the human digestive system. Students' main objective is to place various digestive system components in the correct location within a human body. As they go along, students will also learn by reading short informational texts about the functions of each part. After the full system has been completed, students can explore some of the disorders of the digestive system and complete short quiz-like activities, such as determining which of the digestive organs is the largest in the body. This interactive serves as an excellent model for students of anatomy and provides a great deal of practice with related vocabulary.

Digestive System Lesson Plan: Build-A-Body Game

In this lesson plan which is adaptable for grades 6-12, students use a free online science interactive to learn about the organs and organ substructures of the human digestive system. Students work in teams to identify the digestive system's parts and structures, and drag and drop them to the correct position within the body to build a complete system. Students will also attempt case studies where a problem within the system must be linked to the structure affected. This lesson plan is aligned to Common Core State Standards.  See more »
