Educator Resources for Antibiotic Resistance

This fun, quick game demonstrates to students how bacteria replicate and helps them visualize how bacterial reproduction creates mutations that can withstand antibiotics. The Antibiotic Resistance Game will support exploration of the following concepts: Bacteria are always multiplying When they multiply, small changes are introduced Antibiotics are like poison for bacteria When you take antibiotics for one day, the poison kills any bacteria that are not strong enough to survive the poison for one day If there are bacteria that are strong enough, they will survive. Then only strong bacteria are present When the stronger bacteria multiply, the small changes make new bacteria that are a little stronger and a little weaker than those already present By slowly increasing the dose of antibiotics, you are effectively creating stronger bacteria because the strong survive and reproduce, creating stronger versions
