Course Description
Effective learning begins with a strong foundation of knowledge. This course explores BrainPOP's powerful suite of knowledge-building tools designed to spark curiosity, deepen comprehension, and make learning stick. We will delve into strategies for transforming passive viewing into active learning with Movies and Pause Points, move beyond rote memorization with the Vocab Builder, foster literacy and close reading skills with Connected Texts, and cultivate critical thinking through the analysis of Primary Sources. Join us to learn how to strategically layer these resources to create a rich, supportive, and differentiated learning environment where every student can successfully build the background knowledge they need for academic success. Upon completion of this course, educators will be able to: - Implement Pause Points within BrainPOP Movies to transform passive viewing into an active, formative assessment experience. - Utilize the Vocab Builder to foster a deep, contextual understanding of Tier 2 academic vocabulary through interactive, data-driven tasks. - Integrate Connected Texts to build reading comprehension and fluency, using selectable Lexile levels and embedded scaffolds to support all learners. - Guide students through inquiry by using the multi-source format and guiding questions of the Primary Sources activity to develop analytical skills. - Develop a cohesive instructional plan that layers multiple BrainPOP knowledge-building tools to create a differentiated and comprehensive learning experience.
