Understanding Data Dashboards: Publishing a New White Paper

Posted by kevinm on

We’re proud to announce the release of a white paper that poses a new framework designed to help teachers and educational games developers build better data dashboards. This paper is collaboratively authored by BrainPOP along with Learning Games Network, Classroom, Inc., EdGE at TERC, codeSpark, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Compass Learning, and Curriculum Associates. It aims to help teachers determine the type of dashboard that will best fit their needs, and to help dashboard designers understand what will work best for their teachers.

Titled Understanding data dashboards: where needs and designs meet, the white paper grew out of a 2015 SXSW session on Making Better Data Dashboards, led by BrainPOP, Classroom Inc., and Learning Games Network. That session centered on the challenges of building good educational dashboards, and the benefits of overcoming those challenges.

The SXSW session brought together teachers, administrators ,and edtech developers to brainstorm and prioritize ideas about what good dashboards should do. Instead of trying to find the one best dashboard for everyone, the white paper’s authors developed a five-fold framework for building different dashboards to fit different classroom needs.
