Taking it Further with Individual Logins – A CBE Aha! Moment 4.20

We take great pride in our certification process and the fact that it leads to more student-centered teaching practices with BrainPOP. For more information on how our certification program positively impacts teaching, check out our efficacy report! In the following post, we’ll hear how April CBE of the Month, Kate Lissy, started utilizing BrainPOP’s individual logins.

1) Tell us your BrainPOP “Aha! Moment” from the certification process.

My Aha! Moment was definitely when I learned about BrainPOP’s individual accounts. Until that point, I had every student logging in with a generic log in. That meant everything we did on the site had to be done in one sitting. Through this course, I learned and actually tried out establishing individual accounts with a class of 4th graders and giving them assignments. They loved it and so did I! Now, I feel like I can use for a lot more than movies!

2) What is a specific lesson or unit you’ve taught in the past that you will re-formulate with BrainPOP?

My fourth graders learn about potential and kinetic energy. I am planning to use the movie, Energy Park Basics Game (with SnapThoughts) and use the quiz I made during the Quiz Mixer assignment. I used to just show the movie as a whole class and discuss. Now students can submit their quizzes and gameplay. This could take it so much further into reflective learning through gamification!

3) How will you integrate BrainPOP’s new features and tools to replace what you’ve done in the past?

I plan to conclude my unit on force with a Make-a-Movie. This will replace the unit test I used to give.
