We’d like to introduce you to October’s Certified BrainPOP Educator of the Month, Darshell Silva! Darshell became a CBE at ISTE in 2017 and is a middle school and high school librarian in North Kingstown, RI. With 14 years of experience, Darshell currently works with students in 6th-8th grades and teaches Information, Media, and Digital Literacy.

What inspired you to go into education?
I have always seen that knowledge is power and, if you can find the right information, you can do/ be anything. What better way to share that than to be a school librarian?!?!

What are you most passionate about when it comes to education, technology, and your approaches to teaching?
I am passionate about assisting teachers with the integration of technology in their classrooms as I feel that all students should have equitable access to technology in their education. As a school librarian, I work with students and teachers in finding resources to support them in whatever it is they would like to do.

How does BrainPOP support your educational passions and inspirations?
BrainPOP allows me to impart information in a fun and interesting way, as well as assign students engaging and creative projects to show what they know

Think about how BrainPOP supported a digital citizenship project. Share your reflection of this project.
BrainPOP is one of the best resources for digital citizenship. It has supported all of my digital citizenship teaching. There are so many different topics available and activities to choose from to support my lesson planning. The BrainPOP movies make difficult topics easy to understand and relatable for my students.

What’s on your BrainPOP wish list?
An expansion of the research topics like using a research process or using a database, and more technology-related information like virtual/ augmented reality or internet of things
