Get Ready for the Solar Eclipse!

Posted by jglassman on

On Monday August 21, America will witness a total solar eclipse — the first in the continental U.S. in 38 years!

Observing an eclipse provides students with a breathtaking demonstration of the sun-earth-moon system. BrainPOP’s newly updated eclipse movie describes the basic principles behind the phenomena, and illustrates why the moon’s tilted orbit makes them such special occurrences. Tim also details why your chance to see a total solar eclipse might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

After watching, use the associated lesson plan to guide students in making their very own pinhole cameras to watch the eclipse safely.
