We’re so excited to congratulate our partner, WNET THIRTEEN and Electric Funstuff for Mission US – A Cheyenne Odyssey, recipient of the prestigious Most Significant Impact Game award at the 2014 Games For Change festival.  Mission US: A Cheyenne Odyssey puts players into the shoes of Little Fox – a Northern Cheyenne boy whose life is changed by the encroachment of white settlers, railroads, and military expeditions in the 1860s and 1870.  Expertly designed to be historically and culturally accurate, the game provides space for players to make choices and follow their own path through the complexities of this historical period.  Research has shown that playing this game helped students build vocabulary and better comprehend the sequence of historical events.  Interestingly, gameplay also helped students build a deeper understanding of a full spectrum of perspectives, a learning objective that can be difficult to teach through traditional methods.

Last week we were fortunate to have on the webinar series Chris Czajka, Associate Director of Professional Development from WNET.  Be sure to check out our archive for a detailed overview of the game and exposure to the gameplay experience. You’ll better understand why this award-winning game can make a real impact on student historical understanding!
