Hour of Code Celebrations Continue with Free BrainPOP Movies and More!

Posted by Andrew Gardner on

Here at BrainPOP, we’re celebrating Computer Science Education Week and the Hour of Code in so many ways!  First of all, we’ve created new Computer Science movies and marked them all free for this entire week!  Be sure to spread the word! In addition, we’ve added new programming games to GameUp from partners TynkerBlockly and Turtle Academy.  Now students can have playful programming experiences right on BrainPOP!

From the professional development perspective, our webinars have been focussed on preparing you to participate in the hour of code with your students. Last week Laura Kline from Code.org share about Preparing for the Hour of Code, and this afternoon we will be joined by our friends from Tynker, who will demonstrate best practices for using BrainPOP content to inspire creative programming.  They will also share the 5 new Tynker programming games featured on GameUp. There may still be time to register and join today’s webinar, its starts at 3:30 ET, and we’d love to see you!

Finally, we practice what we preach! On Monday afternoon, the entire BrainPOP office came together to spend one hour coding. After a quick overview about the Hour of Code initiative and a shared viewing of our new Computer Programming movie,  we broke into small groups and got to work using the self paced tutorials from Scratch, Tynker, Code Academy, DashHopscotch, My Robot Friend, Blockly and more!
