Poem Song
Help students understand and appreciate the rhythm of Greenfield’s poetry. Together, choose one of Eloise Greenfield’s poems and set it to music. You can invite students to play musical instruments and bang on cans to accompany the poem. You might want to sing the poem to a familiar melody or make up your own tune.
School Poem
Together, read Night on Neighborhood Street, which is a collection of poems about what goes on in a community at night. If possible, take a walk around the school together. Who makes up the school’s community? What do they do? In pairs or independently, have students write a poem about what goes on in the school. Then create a poetry anthology together!
