Want to meet the father of our country? In this BrainPOP movie, Tim and Moby introduce you to the extraordinary life of George Washington! You’ll learn a little about his early life, including the first job he took how he rose to military prominence. You’ll also find out why Washington was elected Commander-in-Chief of the colonial armies, and how he played a big role in the colonies’ victory in the American Revolutionary War. Learn about a key attack he led on Christmas 1776; why the battle he led Valley Forge was so awful; and where he at last won victory against Britain. Finally, you’ll learn what Washington did after the war and how he managed to keep a young country together. He certainly wasn’t perfect, but he helped make the United States what it is today!
In these lesson ideas which are adaptable for grades 3-12, students use a free interactive timeline to explore the sequence of events in the American Revolution. BrainPOP and BrainPOP Jr. offer lots of movie topic pages for the holidays. Here are some ideas for incorporating them into your classroom instruction: Have students generate and answer their own FYI questions related to a particular holiday. As a class, read the FYI questions on the holiday's movie topic page. Ask students to suggest additional questions about the holiday that were not answered in the movie or on the FYI page. Students can work collaboratively to choose one question to research as a group. Have them share their findings in a class Google Doc or blog post which uses the same format as BrainPOP's FYI. Have students read the responses that other groups composed and facilitate a discussion around them. See more »
