Thanksgiving Preparation with BrainPOP Jr. Get Your Gobble On!

Posted by Andrew Gardner on

Turkey time is just around the corner and BrainPOP Jr. helped spark a little turkey tradition and fun in our classroom.  The students worked on creating a turkey using fine motor skills to cut, glue and color the feathers with great detail. Then they added what they were thankful for in writing on each feather. It gave great insight into the minds of young children for what they are thankful for. Then it was time to give the turkey a detailed background living a wonderful life next to a barn created out of shapes and lines.

BrainPOP Jr is far more than just movies! The “Moby Match” activity is a super addition to the Thanksgiving movie, as it reinforces the symbols of Thanksgiving. Each section of the activities from the quiz to the “draw about it” to the  “write about it” is a springboard for additional learning opportunities that are connected to core subject areas.

Our upper grade students created large size turkeys as well, then we shared the combined lesson in the form of a Flipagram.  At BrainPOP Educators, there are detailed lesson ideas, from writing a holiday menu and honing public speaking skills through making a toast to printable pages and online games.

So, go create a little magic in your classroom and check out all that BrainPOP has to offer!
